Adam D. Perlmutter

Biography

Mr. Perlmutter has been in private practice in New York since 1992. His practice includes federal and state criminal defense, immigration and civil litigation. Mr. Perlmutter is previously an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County, New York where he concentrated in felony trials and appeals. His work includes federal death penalty defense, white-collar defense and extensive DWI work. He has served on the Criminal Courts and Criminal Advocacy committees of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Mr. Perlmutter is also member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense. He also serves on the Criminal Justice Act Panels for the Unites States Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

In addition to his criminal defense work, he has successfully represented a major development corporation and community groups opposing the construction of a power plant on the New York City waterfront. His clients also include several internationally recognized artists and galleries. Mr. Perlmutter also represented seven people arrested for non-violent civil disobedience protesting New York City's closure of six firehouses. He helped found and serves on the board of a parks conservancy, the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn and Greenpoint Waterfront Association for Parks & Planning, a not-for-profit corporation prominent in New York City for urban environmental advocacy and coastal management.

Mr. Perlmutter's work has been reported in The New York Times, National Public Radio, and elsewhere. Mr. Perlmutter has also appeared on WABC7 and News Channel 4 as a commentator on criminal law issues. He also regularly appears on Lisa Bloom InSession on TrueTV (formerly Court TV). He worked as an associate for Morgan Lewis & Bockius and Lord Day & Lord, Barrett Smith in securities and complex civil litigation. Mr. Perlmutter is the recipient of the American Jurisprudence award in trial advocacy from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He received his undergraduate degree with honors from Columbia University. He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Perlmutter graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School with honors.
